Lawrence wrote, directed, choreographed and was featured in this 1982 video, Tiger and Crane Shaolin Kung Fu. We were surprised to find a few of these on You Tube. The Hung Gar tiger and crane forms are demonstrated by Master Chiu Chi Lin, a descendant of the style’s originator, who is recognized today for his role in the film Kung Fu Hustle. In this video, Lawrence seems to find trouble wherever he goes…from ascending a staircase (above) to strolling through the park — employing kung fu techniques for effective self defense.
Tiger and Crane Shaolin Kung Fu was made in the early days of video production. Today, we continue the tradition of exploring practical application of martial art techniques to protect and defend. Check out our latest videos ~ including tiger and crane combat: http://www.tandao.com/videos/

1982 was a good year ~ HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATT!

We’re excited about introducing Shaolin Animal Kung fu techniques into our TanDao videos. We begin with the Crane.

Starting with the basic TanDao Crane Kung Fu exercise to provide a foundation, we move into Crane Head Power Strikes found in Hung Gar, White Crane kung fu and also in Okinawan styles like Goju and Uechi Ryu. For the Evolving Martial Artist, exploring animal techniques provides insight into the combat methodology developed from a traditional mind set. A hand position imitating a claw, paw, beak or wing is what makes crane kung fu unique. To make this practical for self defense, you must develop finger, hand, wrist and forearm strength to generate power.

Crane techniques are valuable in developing flexibility in your wrists joints and in creating a reflex yin/yang action of the hand flicking back and forth at the wrist when striking. Stay tuned for more in the crane series. And join our newsletter for tips to develop and enhance the effectiveness of all the TanDao animals.
